ROOT CANAL THERAPHY

A root canal is a method that helps save a severely decayed tooth. The treatment includes eliminating the damaged area of the tooth, disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it. The common causes of damage to the root canal that affect the pulp are a deep cavity cracked tooth and repeated dental treatment to the tooth.

Steps of a Root Canal

To learn more about root canal therapy, consult with a dentist . Some steps happen over several clinic appointments.

X-ray

If the initial examination doesn't help determine whether or not you need root canal therapy, a review of your X-rays will show where the damage is situated.

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia may be applied to the area of operation. Trained staff will administer the anesthetic needed to ensure no pain will be felt during the procedure.

Pulpectomy

The dentist or endodontist that is treating your root canal, will place a rubber dam around the tooth to be operated on and an access hole is drilled into the tooth. Using a series of tools, the pulp and bacteria are scraped away from the root canal down to the deepest part of the tooth. Water or sodium hyporchlorite is used to flush away the debris.

Filling

Once the tooth has been successfully cleaned out, it will filled with gutta-percha material and closed with proper sealant. This step will happen at the next appointment.

If you experience any symptoms of damage to the root canal, we encourage you to schedule an appointment immediately. Through an examination, the dentists of Dental Corner will help identify if root canal therapy is necessary.
