DENTAL CAVITIES

Dental Cavities

Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries, happen when plaque accumulated on the gumline and between teeth house bacteria that produce acids that destroy the enamel and the layer under the enamel, called the dentin. The acids will eat through the dentin and open gaps on the teeth that expose the pulp and nerve endings, which can cause pain and sensitvity when eating.

Signs of having cavities:

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold foods or drinks
  • Pain when chewing
  • Toothache
  • Dark discoloration on the surface of the teeth

Cavities are brought by a mix of factors, involving bacteria in your mouth, sipping sugary drinks, frequent snacking, and neglecting proper dental hygiene.

Cavities are among the world's most common health issues, and are common across various age groups, from children to adults. However, any individual who has teeth can get cavities, including newborn babies.

If cavities aren't treated, they can lead to acute toothache, disease, and tooth loss. Regular dental visits and regular, proper brushing and flossing practices are your best defense against cavities and tooth decay.

To defend your teeth from dental cavities, we offer fluoride treatment to keep your teeth in excellent condition. We also have dental sealants that will close off the cavity and prevent any further bacterial attacks that could possibly worsen the cavity and lead to more severe dental problems.
